detailed belt sizing guide

Sizing Shortcut:

If you do not want to take a belt measurement to find your belt size selecting a belt size 2” larger than your true pants size will provide a properly fitting belt. Adding 2” to your pants size will not work if your pants are vanity sized (your pants are labelled as a smaller size than they actually are). Our belts are sized in inches which means you cannot order the same size belt that your wear from a different manufacturer as many belts are also vanity sized. Do not order the same size belt as your pants size, this will result in a belt that is too small. We encourage everyone to follow the instructions below to find the proper size as this method is the least accurate and it is well worth the extra effort to ensure you are ordering the proper size.

How to take a belt measurement

The easiest way to find the proper size belt is to take a belt you currently have that fits you well and measure it. Make sure the belt you are measuring fits with all the gear you plan on carrying. Our belts are sized in inches, and you should select the belt size that is closest to your measurement in inches.

To measure a leather belt with holes, lay the belt flat and measure from the hole that you use to the part of the buckle the tail interfaces with. Select the belt size that is closest to your measurement in inches.

To measure a nylon belt (with or without hook and loop closure) lay the belt flat and measure from the crease in the tail of the belt (the tail will have a crease in the location that you adjust it to when you wear it.) to the part of the buckle the tail interfaces with. Select the belt size that is closest to your measurement in inches.

*Note*: Make sure you measure to the part of the buckle the tail interfaces with and not the end of the buckle. Measuring to the end of the buckle will give a measurement that is too long. Each buckle type is different, you will need to thread the buckle and observe where the tail interfaces to find the point you need to measure to.

If you are in between sizes (e.g. your belt measurement is 37”) you will need to decide if you prefer a longer or shorter secured tail section on your belt. Rounding up will give you a longer secured tail section, rounding down will give you a shorter secured tail section.

Note the red line in this picture indicates what portion of the buckle to begin your measurement from.

Note the red line in this picture shows that both belts measure 34.5 inches. This would indicate that you should select a size 34 belt
